This do cool liquid but, there are a few problems. First they don't hold the same cooling level as an equally sized cube secondly, they don't float. Be aware that most people are used to the ice being close to their lips so when they drink the cubes actively cool the fluids they're drinking right away. Because these don't float they don't have this this on the lips cooling effect. Ultimately you're better off drinking from a straw if the fluids are (warm) to get the best cooling effect. Sadly the best all around sealed cube is most likely going to be thing metallic or plastic lined cubes. These will cool a drink ,but they won't cool it the why an ice cube does because they cool the bottom of the glass. Keep in mind higher temperature fluids rise and lower temperature fluids sink. So if your drinking from the top the of the glass you won't get the cooler fluids from the bottom cooled by the cubes.I admit that my freezer is warmer than it should be, but these reusable ice cubes just don't last long. They are filled with a liquid of some kind that freezes solid, but melts too quickly in even a freezer-cold beverage. If you drink your beverage with alacrity, these will suffice. But if you are a sipper, they will not keep it cold long. They do not add any taste to the drink that I can discern, which was a concern of mine. The metal is of sufficient quality that it doesn't flavor the beverages I've used them in.It is important that I mention I have only ever purchased these reusables. I have not purchased any other brand, nor the solid stone versions I've seen. Therefore, these cubes might be perfectly comparable to others.The tongs are nice! These were a gift for my husband who obsesses over ice in his drinks. He likes stuff cold. These do not stay cold like an ice cube does. They're kind of cool, if you want to impress people, ha ha. They're well made. They just don't stay cold. However, they do prevent the drink from getting thinned out by melting ice. In that way, they work. My husband and son both say it leaves a taste in the drink. I tried this and didn't find it to be so, but I'm out numbered. They both say it leaves a metallic after taste. I don't agree, but there you go. I wouldn't buy them again. You really can't replace ice.I have to explain. I am a bike rider not a whiskey drinker. I bought these to put into my energy drink to keep it from getting watered down by melting ice cubes on long rides. So, that isn't what they were designed for. They work halfway decently. At least, I am not drinking weak flavored water by the end of the ride. It still tastes the same, just not quite so cold. I am not sorry I bought them.The package arrived just about 24 hours after I ordered it, and shipping was free! The stainless steel cubes are exactly as described, and the set of tongs is cute and functional.The only reason this is a 4-star (and not 5-star) product is simply because it's a gift and won't be tested out until after the holidays. Diluted drinks no more!We use these all the time for scotch and other drinks and they're great and hold the cool temperature well. One caution is that they're heavy, and if you let them fall into the side of the glass while drinking, you might break a thinner or crystal glass (like we did). Lesson learned! Still recommend them!These definitely keep the drink colder, longer, than whiskey stones, but they aren't as good as I expected. The first drink is ice cold, but by the 2nd drink, the cooling effect is minimal, meaning that you have to keep swapping them out. Honestly, a "frozen" beer mug is cheaper, and stays cold longer.These reusable refreezable cubes are great - and you can wash them with each use so there is no flavor mixing issues between rounds of drinks. They don't get your drink ICE cold (and thermodynamically you know they cant) but I'd say they get the drink 70% as cold. Cool enough for me, especially when drinking scotch or Jack since you want a little aroma still left! I bought them because I was tired of my freezer's ice cubes retaining a slight undesirable flavor/taste from the tapwater they were made from. Problem solved!Really cool kids love emI love very cold drinks, but I hate it when they get watery. These stainless steel ice cubes are a great solution for this issue. The set includes eight cubes about the same size as standard ice cubes, and a set of tongs. The ice cubes have a continuous stainless steel exterior (no seams) with some sort of fluid inside. They aren't particularity heavy, but they do clank around quite a bit inside a glass. (Don't use with thin glasses!)The ice cubes work the same as regular ice cubes. Just pop them in the freezer. It takes about as long to freeze as regular water ice cubes (around 4 hours or so). I've been using four of them at a time in my glasses and has been keeping my drink cool for about 3 hours depending on the ambient temperature. There is no taste from the metal, and drink is not watered down.The ice cubes are easy to clean. I’m just washing them by hand and popping them back in the freezer.Only thing I don’t like about these ice cubes is that there is no tray to use to store them in the freezer. (The plastic tray they are packed in is too flimsy.) I'm using a small zip top bag to keep them corralled in the freezer.Overall these ice cubes work well for for keeping a drink cool without watering it down, which is exactly what I’m looking for. These ice cubes do a great job at keeping my drinks cold, and if my drinks were originally from the fridge, the ice cubes can keep my drinks cold for more than 6 hours.I usually keep all 8 ice cubes in the freezer when I am not using them in my drinks. I usually put 4 ice cubes in my drink, which means I can have two cold drinks at once. Tongs are included for you to keep the ice cubes bacteria free, and you can even use the tongs for other applications if you don’t already have a pair of tongs. The tongs are especially useful if you are serving guests or in a professional setting.What I like most about these ice cubes is that they do not dilute my drink and the ice cubes have no aftertaste. These cubes look nice, but their performance is on par with the gel filled cubes you could purchase from a dollar store.
