it took a bit to get the right h20 fill amt also I went on line to find a way to get clear ice without cracks or white areas. Many sites said to use distilled h20 or boiled or double boiled distilled h20...this didn't work. I found a site that said to get clear ice, the ice had to freeze slowly. They said that tape h20 could be used but to place the filled cube trays in a plastic cooler with the top off. Once placed in the cooler, fill the cooler with h20 just to the top of the ice tray, not beyond. When frozen, you break the ice away from the orbs and YES YES YES, you have crystal clear ice Death Stars! They were perfect! Takes a little effort but worth it!I purchased this Death Star ice ball mold as part of my partner's Father's Day present to complement a bourbon trio I got him. We are big Star Wars fans and I had high hopes for this product. During the first few tries, our ice balls came out cracked and water drips were apparent (coming from the top hole and between the pieces of the mold). We kept trying, adjusting water levels and boiling the water. However, it was to no avail. The Bee Creative customer service contacted us and upon hearing our disappointment, they sent tips to help make a perfect ice ball. This was great of them, but the tips listed were ones we already tried with no success. We still use the ice ball mold every now and then, but it still has cracks. I wish I could say I loved this, but it certainly didn't live up to our expectations. As far as making an ice ball for whiskey goes, this is perfect. However, it cracks about 90% of the time and you can't really tell it's supposed to be a death star. I've tried sealing it tighter, changing the total amount of water addded, changing the temp of water when freezing, changed temp of the freezer, etc. Still cracks most of the time. For the price, however, you've at least got a great ice ball mold with a small amount of novelty.I should note that I bought one for my friend and he said his rarely cracks. Even if it's not perfect, the price is fine. I'd give this 3.5 stars if I could. These didnt work for me!My husband just loves it. it's easy to fill and remove after frozen, which I kinda wondered about. He fills it with wine and then uses it in his glass later to chill but not water it down.Good quality, and an excellent addition to any nerds collection. It looks just like the death star, and when making ice cubes they last for a while! I was so impressed I bought a second one. They also arrived in a timely manner. This is a must have for any star wars fans! The bottom is a little tricky to remove, but I found it easy after plying around the edges with my nails and pulling hard to do the trick; use warm water to loosen if you can't get it right away. All-in-all a very satisfied customer!Doesn't provide a lot of detail to it once it is frozen but it works just as advertised. It's made where you can put it together and then there is a hole in the top to pour the water into it; very nice. Just run some hot water on it when it's ready to make it easier to open...Loved the Death Star ice sphere!Ad drama to any drink!I used this to make a giant chocolate fudge ball as a gift. It worked relatively well, probably because the fudge had a dense gooey texture, so didn't leak. The details would probably be improved by using liquid chocolate as a first fill coating, then putting fudge inside. I haven't tried making ice yet. Delivery took a little while, but was within the specified timescale.Got it for a friend's birthday present, she absolutely loved it. Always has it with Whiskey ;)love itZweimal hat es echt gut funktioniert. Somit 3 Sterne für den Schoko-TodessternMould comes in two halves, with the mould seal being hidden by the Death star "equatorial line" so it is nicely designed from that perspectiveIn terms of making giant ice balls, while I'm sure Darth Vader would find my lack of faith in the design "disturbing", fortunately, he wasn't in the kitchen with me when I made these and I found a foolproof way to do it is to seal the mould joint first with tape, before you add water (otherise leakage tended to occur). Also, if you want "crystal clear" death stars (rather than cloudy ones), then you need distilled water, otherwise the salts and what-have-you in normal water, make the ice crystals opaque and the death star looks cloudy. Still look really good though in a very large G&T!The ice balls you get are really big and the detail is pretty good too. Great for both Star Wars fans and people who just like big cold drinks on hot days (which can very often be the same person!)I have also used one of these to make paperweights as part of an arts and crafts project (turns out, it's a great cheap mould for that and works really well with a whole range of materials from plaster to resins and even concrete!, as long as you seal the join before you start, with a bit of tape) Good fun!
