Though the novelty has worn off, the ice cream maker attachment is a fantastic tool for making top-notch ice cream without an expensive, dedicated machine. To use this, simply freeze it overnight in your freezer. They recommend 18 hours of freezer time if memory serves me well. When you take it out and cinch it down into your KitchenAid base, make sure you set up the paddle and *turn the mixer on* before you start pouring liquid in. Part of the magic of this ice cream maker is its ability to freeze liquids incredibly fast. If you don't turn the unit on before pouring liquid, whatever you pour in will freeze to the walls and jam (or worse, break) the paddle attachment.Ice cream from this has come out incredibly smooth and perfectly aerated. Most of the time, we're getting incredibly thick ice cream in no more than 20 minutes at the lowest speed setting. I recommend being very careful about the volume of cream/mix you put in the maker, since it expands significantly. We have made banana peanut butter ice cream, as well as mint chocolate chip, both times without boiling the cream mixture first. We also made something slightly more complex – a matcha ice cream – which did require the heating that makes the consistency better. There are so many different recipes you can do with this mixer that the possibilities are endless.Cleaning is a breeze! Make sure to let it sit out overnight in a drying rack to make sure you get all condensation off of it.For storage, we keep this in the freezer with a layer of saran wrap over the top. The saran wrap keeps freezer smells from embedding in the interior surface.Lastly, make sure not to use metal implements like spoons or forks on the inside of this maker, as they can scratch the stick-free surface.Overall, highly recommended and great fun!
